So, here we are in the middle of February. The holidays seem like a distant past, New Year’s resolutions have come and gone, and spring with its warmer temperatures is still well over a month away. Yes folks, we’re rounding the half-way point, but still smack dead in the middle of another southern New England winter season. And while our sights are beginning to focus on the upcoming summer season filled with fresh local seafood like fried clams, lobster rolls and local Niantic Bay Oysters, we’re still craving some good ole’ “Comfort Food.”
Look, truth be told, there’s no bad “Comfort Food.” If something gives you comfort, it’s good for you. Right? And, if it’s good for you, you’ve satisfied a new year’s resolution. So, it’s a win/win. Over the years, we’ve asked many of our guests – who are some of the most food-oriented people we know – to tell us what some of their favorite “Comfort Foods” are. Well, you’ll find most of their answers on the menu at Frank’s Gourmet Grille. And, if you’re planning a visit to the inn anytime soon and you’re a fan of well-prepared “Comfort Foods”, there might not be any better than those prepared at Frank’s Gourmet Grille in Mystic, Connecticut.
Frank’s Gourmet Grille has long been a favorite with our guests for many reasons – a huge menu, gourmet preparation, large portions that are reasonably priced. Wow! What’s not to like about that! Surprisingly though, it’s Frank’s “Comfort Food” dishes that shine during a New England winter.
The term “Comfort Food” was coined sometime back in the late 1960s. “Comfort Food” conjures up a vision of hearty, stick-to-your ribs food like Chicken Pot Pie, Sheppard’s Pie (made with real sirloin beef tips), Spaghetti and Meatballs, Beef Stroganoff, or – the ever classic – braised Veal Osso Bucco. If these classic dishes entice your taste buds, then Frank’s Gourmet Grille is the place you’ll want to visit during your next stay at the inn.
The menu at Frank’s Gourmet Grille is classic American cuisine albeit with a slightly Mediterranean flare. Aside from nightly dinner specials – which are often hard to resist – Frank’s also features a wide variety of appetizers, soups, salads, mouth-watering entrees, lighter-fare items, and desserts that would satisfy any sweet tooth. Frank’s grilled mussels and stuffed portabella mushroom appetizers are simply delectable offerings, and the nightly seafood pasta special is well worth taking a look at when perusing the menu. Many of the delicacy dinner entrees offered include fresh seafood, veal, pork, beef, and chicken. In addition, you’ll find Chicken Oscar, Coquilles St. Jacques, Lobster Scampi and Shrimp Scampi. The only thing that could possibly upstage Frank’s tantalizing offerings is the atmosphere of the cozy, intimate dining room or the large bar area – which is our personal favorite – where we have meet the most wonderful people while dining. Located in Mystic Connecticut (just 20 minutes from our inn) Frank’s Gourmet Grille is open for both lunch and dinner – but closed on Mondays.
Many of our inn’s Special Packages include dinner certificates that offer dining choices at area restaurants with Frank’s Gourmet Grille being one of them. We hope you will find the time to visit us here at the Inn at Harbor Hill Marina on the Connecticut shoreline and experience a true culinary extravaganza at Frank’s Gourmet Grille. ‘Till then, Bon Appetite!
